New Film, New Show, and Padawan Training Institute at Eternal Con 2016

Empire Temple participates in many events throughoBrothers Grim Posterut the year, but one event staple we always look forward to is Eternal Con. From June 10-12, our members returned to the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City, NY to: premiere our short “Brothers Grimm” at the Eternal Con Film Festival; premiere our new show, Ghost Squadron; train over 130 Padawans; and raise money for our local charity, St.Mary’s Children’s Healthcare System for Children. It was a busy but incredibly enjoyable Eternal Con 2016.

On the first day of the convention, we began to raise money for St.Mary’s and our Local Director, Rubin Polizzi, premiered our short “Brothers Grim”, starring Empire Temple members Tyler Welsek, James Augulis and Andrew Webb, at the Eternal Con Film Festival.

Saturday was a big day for our members. We premiered our new show: Ghost Squadron, which was written by our members and included both live and filmed performances. Ghost Squadron told the story of Princess Leia’s secret group of long lost Jedi and their latest mission to retrieve Imperial plans from Darth Vader and his Inquisitors. Over fifteen members participated in the performance and we’d like to thank Christine from Rebel Legion: Echo Base for her performance in the filmed portion.

On Sunday, Jedi (Orin Kel, Reos Tokani, Danika Moon, Bran Dellock, Kamyos Rehnard, Markov Stormwind, Vadim Aximili, Galatea Frey, Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Sith (Darth Khiana, Martous Daey) joined forces to train over 130 younglings in an effort to prove that there may be “two sides”, but there truly is one Force. Thank you to Frank and the Eternal Con team who donated the lightsabers, which the Padawans were able to keep as they being their journey to becoming Jedi Knights.

Over the weekend, our members were able to raise over $1,100 for our local charity, St.Mary’s Children’s Healthcare System for Children during our lightsaber raffle. Thank you again to Eternal Con team and the generous attendees. We hope to see everyone again for next year’s Eternal Con!

How old do I have to be to attend class?
Becasue this is a combat based class attendees must be 18 years or older to attend on their own. Anyone between the ages of 13-17 may participate in class but MUST have a parent or guardian present throughout the time of rehearsal. Children under he age of 13 may attend as spectators but must remain outside of the practice space with their parent or guardian at all times.

I Have Never Done This Before–Is That OK?
It does not matter if you are new to lightsabers or have been rehearsing for years. Come to a class, have a great time and work up a sweat.

What Do I Need to Bring?
You need to bring the most important thing–YOU! It’s also a good idea to bring workout clothes (sweatpants and a T-shirt are just perfect) and comfortable shoes. You don’t need a lightsaber to start off–there are always extra to go around. However, if you plan on coming frequently we can help you find one that is just right for you. IMPORTANT: No toy lightsabers - combat sabers only. These things are cool and look great but they will break once you get going.

Saber Guild: Empire Temple is the New York City temple of Saber Guild: a Lucasfilm Ltd. recognized international Star Wars lightsaber performance and costuming organization.
