It is important to know that we are not a school, martial arts academy , or dueling group. While we do get together each week and learn new choreography techniques, we are your average Star Wars fans that work together to better each other though out our lightsaber journey.
So your not a school and I Have Never Done This Before Is That OK?
It does not matter if you are new to lightsabers or have been rehearsing with them for years. Come to an open rehearsal and have a great time geeking out and working up a sweat. We will safely show you some stage techniques and have you working on a piece of choreography by the end of rehearsal.
What Goes On During A Rehearsal?
Our New York Lightsaber Training and Rehearsals consist of the following….
20 Minutes – Warm ups and drills
40 Minutes – Basic or new lightsaber skill development
1 Hour – Lightsaber choreography and presentations
What Do I Need to Bring?
You need to bring the most important thing–YOU! It’s also a good idea to bring workout clothes (sweatpants and a T-shirt are just perfect) and comfortable shoes. You don’t need a lightsaber to start off–there are always extra to go around. However, if you plan on coming frequently we can help you find one that is just right for you. OH and one more important thing: No toy lightsabers (if you don’t know what we mean, just ask). These things are cool and look great but they will break once you get going.
How much is it to attend a rehearsal?
Classes and rehearsal are free, however the Chelsea Recreation Center does require a NYC parks and recreation membership to attend classes. The center does allow people who are attending for the first time to obtain a guess pass to see if this is something you would like to do weekly. It is important to remember that membership to the center does also come with the following amenities:
