In January, members of Empire Temple were invited to perform at the NY/NJ Heroes and Villains Fan Fest. Due to Hoth-like conditions, which swept the tri-state area and caused states of emergency, the organizers of HVFF announced a 2.0 re-do of Heroes and Villains in July for fans unable to make the original event.
As a non-profit group, Empire Temple usually raises money for local charity St.Mary’s Children’s Healthcare System for Children – but when Stephen Amell and the Heroes and Villains Fan Fest team announced that they would be donating all proceeds from Fan Fest Orlando to Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer’s One Orlando Fund, Empire Temple decided to pitch in and raise money for the victims’ families and survivors of the Pulse Nightclub tragedy as well.
During the Heroes and Villains weekend, our members trooped, took pictures with fans, but more importantly raised money through a tricky-tray like raffle which included:
- A Combat-Ready Lightsaber similar to the ones we use in our shows
- Replica wands from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter (Orlando), donated from a friend of Saber Guild in honor of Pulse Victim Luis Velma
- Various Lightside and Darkside Star Wars collectibles from our friends at Hasbro, Inc.
- An autographed show still from the CW’s The Flash, donated by our friend Carlos Valdes
Over #HVFF weekend we proudly raised $2,000 for the One Orlando fund. We’d like to once again thank our sponsors for their donations, the generous Heroes & Villains Fan Fest attendees and our members for their big-hearted spirits and diligence. We couldn’t have done it without you.
